How to Plan the Perfect Date Night Wardrobe
Since it is almost Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share my 5 steps on planning the best date night wardrobe no matter what your style. I mean how many times do you stand in front of your closet and ask yourself: WHY can’t I find anything to WEAR?! And I mean if I’m going on date (whether it’s a new dude in my life OR my husband) I want to feel confident and happy about what I’m wearing! Sounds simple, right?!
BUT we all know it really isn’t that simple…so I when I was thinking through my process and how I pick out my date night outfit ideas I came up with these 5 steps!
Step 1: Pick out your favorite piece
YES! The one thing in your closet that you LOVE wearing and you feel great in. Whether that is a shirt or jean doesn’t matter just take it out!
Step 2: Waistline Matters
Whatever piece you picked out as your fav…let’s think about our proportions and focus in on the waist.
Let me give you a few examples:
If you picked a flowy top maybe you stick with a skinnier jean OR you decide you want to belt the top to accentuate your waist. If you don’t love your waist line at the moment- maybe just take that looser top and tuck in the very front portion above you belt buckle. Super chic!
Step 3: Accessories
Here are my accessory guidelines:
- If you choose statement earrings, you can pair with a large cuff or ring. Depending on the size and statement of the piece you probably don’t need a necklace because it will take away from earrings and away from your gorg face!)
- If you choose a statement necklace, pair with smaller bracelet and whatever you want for rings!
Step 4: Shoes
Don’t kill me! I know you are not going to LOVE my thoughts here, BUT it is DATE night so I think a mid to high heel is the way to go. It elongates your leg and I don’t know there is something about putting on a little heel that gets me in the date mood! Now this doesn’t mean you can’t go for a block heel and puhleaseeeee don’t wear something you can’t walk in, but just try?
Step 5: Flirty/Sassy/Your Style Input here
Time to review each step of the outfit and let’s put in your girly/sassy/edgy touch. WHATEVER makes you feel feminine and flirty now is the time to kick this outfit up a notch.
Let me share with you an example of something I wore to help you visualize:
Recently I needed to pull together a casual date night outfit so I paired an all black sweater with white cuffs, tight black leather pants and white booties to a date. I just got the white booties and LOVED them. I wore my hair in loose curls and felt amazing. It wasn’t the girliest outfit but I think you get the picture. The more confident you feel the better your look will be.
So there are my easy 5 steps to building your date night wardrobe. If you were stuck on a step because let’s say you don’t really have the best jeans to go with your favorite top…now you know what to put on your shopping list 🙂 OR if you don’t have the best accessories to top off the look you put together…we just took the guessing out of what to purchase on your next shopping trip!
